Welcome to Oldham & District Riding Club's website. We are a small, friendly club affiliated to the British Riding Clubs movement. We welcome anyone who wants to enjoy being with their horse through participating in competitions, joining in lessons on riding and stable management, sharing in social events with other horsey people both on and off horseback, and even going on holiday with their horse to Riding Club Camp - in short we try to promote better relationships between riders and their horses in every way we can.

Each year we hold three shows in each of the five disciplines of Dressage , Showjumping , Combined Training , Ridden & In Hand Showing and Working Hunter. We also have recently introduced the Jill Bradley Memorial Mini One Day Event in memory of a much loved riding club member who died in May 2010.

We also hold an annual Members Only Novice Show which is aimed at the genuine novice or less experienced rider who wants to have a go at something they haven't done before. Participants are encouraged to enter all 5 classes (Tack & Turnout, Equitation, Best Riding Club Horse, Working Hunter and Showjumping). It is a very friendly and supportive atmosphere and the judge explains in each class exactly what she wants to see, and gives feedback after the results of the class are announced. A trophy is awarded to the highest placed member over all 5 classes.

Other activities include a sponsored ride, a beach ride, and of course the Annual Presentation Night where we celebrate the year's successes with the trophy winners.

We also encourage all our members to join in team events. We regularly send teams to local and Area team dressage, showjumping and horse trials competitions. The teams are at all levels - Novice, Intermediate and Open - so if you would like to join a team, just put your name forward.

Riding Club Camp is an excellent opportunity to further your riding ability and to make new friends. and forms an important part of the club's aim to provide a network of friendship and support to horse owners in the area.

None of our events can take place without a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes. Helpers are essential and every member is required to help out at a minimum of one show during the season, whether this be helping to set up jumps, stewarding at shows, writing for the dressage judge etc, and of course putting everything away afterwards. The more who do this, the less work for all.

Our showground at Friezland Arena, Manchester Road, Greenfield, comprises an all weather arena, a grassed area and parking area which are made available to us courtesy of Oldham Council. Throughout the year fund-raising events are run by the Friezland User Group to pay for the maintainance of the showground and we encourage all members to support those events and also to join the Friends of Friezland, the membership fees of which are used solely for the upkeep of the showground.
